A 17-year-old Indian American student, Shivani Sud, has won the $100,000 Intel Science Talent Search scholarship, the US’s most coveted school prize commonly referred to as the Junior Nobel.
Her winning project uses biotechnology to identify and treat patients suffering from colon cancer.
“This is a recognition of my hard work. It gives me an opportunity to give back to others who need help,” Shivani said.
Daughter of Ish and Anu Sood, Shivani beat 40 finalists, including seven other Indian Americans for the top prize.
Past winners of this prestigious annual competition have later bagged more than one hundred of the world's top Science and Math honours, including six Nobel prizes.
Will Shivani be the next in line? Well, we will have to wait a little longer for that one.
